The Boat Shed

Boat Shed, Hamworthy, Poole

Currently at planning stage, 2016

Climate change brings a very probable chance of high flood levels across the poole area. The boatshed is sited at beach level and is at risk of flooding from abnormally high tides.

The section is divided to provide a ‘wet’ boat store and workshop at the lower level and a ‘dry’ club house and leisure space at the upper level. Both levels are serviced from the L01 slab: boat workshop facilities are serviced via workshop-style ceiling-mounted fixtures.

A formal language is developed through this approach to the section: a hard-wearing, heavy-duty base and a more playful roof which responds to views, context and the uses within.

The harbour is home to an active dinghy sailing community. As the owners of several boats, the proposed boatshed aims to provide the facilities necessary for maintenance and storage.

On top of this, the boatshed would provide the appropriate facilities for the familiy’s younger members to enjoy the array of water based activities available in the surrounding area as well as housing a games room.
